Teresa Orozco-Petersen
Avant Flute Choir Conductor

Musicians today are met with challenges that make demands of all their abilities as artists, educators, mentors, self-promoters and more. Flutist Teresa Orozco-Petersen has risen to the challenge of today's musician by dedicating more than 30 years of her life, perfecting her art and continually expanding her horizons. Her devotion to the arts and, music specifically, has developed thoroughly to include all styles of music from 21st Century, Classical, Opera, Jazz, Afro-Cuban, Pop, Brazilian, Folkloric and R&B. She is a highly respected orchestral player, contract musician, director and founder of the chamber ensemble "Ovation Chamber Music", as well as mentor to over 40 young musicians. Teresa teaches flute privately and, is a studio musician and recording artist in numerous groups throughout the Bay Area.

For the past four years, she has been the San Jose Youth Symphony Avant Flute Choir Conductor and, for the past three years, guest conductor for the San Jose State University Flute Ensemble. Teresa received her BA/MA from San Jose State University, with honors, under the direction of Flute Professor Isabelle Chapuis-Starr. She has been co-principal of the Monterey Symphony since 1986 and principal flute of New Music Works since 1997. In addition, she has substituted for the Carmel Bach Society since 2003, Opera San Jose since 1987 and, Santa Cruz Symphony since 1989. Teresa is also an accomplished Jazz and Latin musician, member of the 10-piece salsa band Mambo Tropical, Orquesta Gitano, and, frequent guest artist with the James Robinson Group

Mrs. Orozco-Petersen resides in San Jose with her husband of 20 years, Brad, and their three children, Nicole, Danielle and Anthony. The entire family, are dedicated musicians and, perform in operas, retirement homes, churches and hospitals throughout the Bay Area.
