The Avancé Flute Choir, led by Conductor, Gala Yaroshevsky, is tailored to bring together young flutists of advanced level. The repertoire includes the most challenging pieces written and arranged for flute ensembles. Questions of musical phrasings, meanings, composers’ lives and music history, are addressed during the rehearsals, that are both lively and motivating.

In addition, the members of the choir have the opportunity to participate in their annual Solo Competition. Winners receive cash prizes as well as the chance to perform as soloists at one of the choir’s concerts.

Avancé Flute Choir’s Annual Solo Competition

The San Jose Youth Symphony holds an annual Solo Competition, proudly sponsored by the San Jose Symphony Foundation. The competition is tailored to advanced flute players, capable of demonstrating excellent technique and mature music interpretation. The suggested repertoire includes a wide selection of brilliant flute pieces from all music periods. In addition to performing as soloists in one of the Choir’s upcoming concerts, the winners of the competition will also be rewarded with monetary prizes.

This year the competition will take place on Monday night, January 23, 2017, during rehearsal in the Sanctuary of the Los Gatos United Methodist Church (LGUMC), which will start at 8 pm. The competition will be held after the regularly scheduled rehearsal at the Orange Music Studio. All members not participating are highly encouraged to attend the Competition at LGUMC and support their fellow Choir members’ performances.

Here are the competition guidelines and the application.
