CONCERT WINDS & SAXOPHONE ENSEMBLES
The Concert Winds Ensemble is designed to develop the overall ability of the young woodwind and brass musicians. Students in this ensemble will perform band works at a grade 2-4 which is standard for most middle school ensembles. Concert Winds is also designed for the more proficient high school/middle school musician desiring to learn a new instrument to enhance the ensemble instrumentation and balance in their current school program. Students will have the opportunity to work in smaller ensembles and will perform 2-3 times during the year.
The Saxophone Ensemble is SJYS’s newest ensemble, created this season, to provide challenging repertoire to the saxophone players belonging to the Concert Winds Ensemble. Led by conductor, Charles Ancheta, these players rehearse and perform in their own group, as well as with the Concert Winds, and play a wide range of repertoire, including classical, chamber and band music, and jazz.
Musicians must meet these requirements in order to be accepted into these SJYS ensembles.
Please join us in welcoming back Charles Ancheta for his fourth season as conductor of the Concert Winds Ensemble. Maestro Ancheta is very excited for all of the musical adventures in store this season!
Charles, a long time SJYS affiliate and now Music Director at Prospect High School, was excited to conduct his debut performance of the Concert Winds Ensemble on January 23, 2012. Here is the photo gallery and video of their performance.
