Heidi Modr has enjoyed a lifetime in music playing violin at top concert halls with world renowned artists. A graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory and The Juilliard School, where she studied with the late Dorothy Delay, Heidi garnered two favorable New York Times reviews for solo appearances in New York City. Anita Gates’ comment on her playing of an unaccompanied Sonata reads ‘Bach played beautifully by Heidi Modr’. She has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Sapporo Hall, Alice Tully Hall, State Theater and The Kennedy Center numerous times in solo, chamber music and orchestral concerts. Heidi has played on hundreds of commercials and soundtracks in addition to recording and performing with artists like Ray Charles, Luciano Pavarotti, Jessye Norman, Burt Bacharach, Frederica Von Stade, Wynton Marsalis, Plant and Page and Aretha Franklin. Having moved to the south bay area recently, Heidi performed as solo violinist in Five Hebrew Love Songs at Old Church in San Francisco. She has been enjoying performing in the section at the San Jose Chamber Orchestra and Symphony San Jose.
In addition, Heidi has been a Music Director and avid educator for young ensembles having conducted the orchestra and coached chamber music at the International School of the Hague and Gould Academy for many years. Bringing the joy of music, community of ensemble playing and creating lifelong players and supporters of music through directing ensembles has been extremely rewarding. Heidi looks forward to conducting the prelude ensembles of the San Jose Youth Symphony program.
