The SJYS Brass Ensemble is devoted to building the musicianship and technique of young brass players through the study of brass ensemble repertoire. Working with brass pedagogue and conductor Daniel Wood, students will perform a wide range of genres from classical to pop music, with an emphasis on building strong fundamental playing skills. Students will develop their breath control, tone production, ensemble skills, and more through bi-weekly rehearsals and coaching. The Brass Ensemble is ideally suited for intermediate to advanced brass musicians who want to take their playing to the next level and play a lot!
Rehearsals & Sectionals
Rehearsals and Sectionals for the Ensemble begin in February, and end in May, with a performance in concert. The rehearsals and sectionals are held biweekly on Sundays, from 6:15 – 7:15 pm at the Los Gatos United Methodist Church (LGUMC), 111 Church Street, Los Gatos.
Concerts
The Brass Ensemble performs one concert per season, along with the Percussion, Saxophone and Concert Winds Ensembles, at Valley Christian High School’s Conservatory of the Arts . (map) Concert admission is $5 for adults; $3 for students and seniors; and free for kids under 5.
