Learning with other harpists in the SJYS Harp Ensemble, led by conductor, Kristal Schwartz, is a fun and excellent opportunity to grow as a musician. Student musicians gain proficiency in ensemble techniques — learning to listen and follow each other, watching the conductor, and understanding the responsibilities of performing as a soloist.
Rehearsals
Rehearsals are held bi-weekly on Saturdays from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm, in the Band Room of the Music Building at West Valley College, located at 14000 Fruitvale Avenue, Saratoga CA 95070 (map)
Concerts
The Harp Ensemble performs three concerts per season, two of which are community outreach concerts, which are free and open to the public. The ensemble starts off the season in December, performing at the Season of Hope Concert at Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph, in downtown San Jose, and then again in March, at The Atrium (Brookdale), a senior community, in San Jose. The ensemble ends the season with their final concert at West Valley College. Admission to that concert is $5 for adults, $2.50 for students and seniors, and free for kids under 12. (see their schedule of concerts for the current season)
